Full Name
Weerachai Jaratlerdsiri
Job Title
Group Leader, Computational Genomics Group
Company/Institute
University of Sydney
Speaker Bio
His research focuses on comparative (pan)genomic technologies and the analysis of large scale “Big Data”. He develops bioinformatic methods and tools that automate high throughput data analytics on high performance computing platforms to interrogate the roles of DNA variation and environmental factors in global human evolution and disease adaptation.

A particular focus of his work is cancer genomics, where mutational drivers and patterns are used to characterise the tumour microenvironment at the individual level and the “tumour macroenvironment” across ancestries and geographic regions. He is a Group Leader of the Computational Genomics Group (CGG) at the Charles Perkins Centre, where his research examines differences in cancer biology arising from inherited variation, lifestyle factors, and mutagenic exposures.

Working in partnership with internationally recognised cancer genome consortia, he leads technological development in genomics and data science while collaborating with teams across Australia, Africa, Europe, and the United States. This global engagement is strengthened through the lab’s membership in the HEROIC Prostate Cancer Health Precision Africa1K initiative and the ICGC Pan Prostate Cancer Group (PPCG).
