Dr Usha Dutta is a DAAD fellow and received her PhD in Human Molecular Genetics from Martin Luther University, Germany. She was elected a Fellow of the Telangana Academy of Sciences (FTAS) and nominated as Treasurer for the Indian Society of Human Genetics (ISHG).
She was a visiting Scientist at the Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Medicine in Berlin, the University of Würzburg, and the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
She is currently working as a Cytogeneticist in the Diagnostics division of CDFD. She has nearly 28 years of research experience in cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, molecular biology, and Genomics, and has established techniques such as FISH and SKY. Her primary area of research is chromosomal breakpoint mapping, which involves identifying novel genes. She has been instrumental in establishing pipelines for whole-genome long-read sequencing of balanced chromosomal translocations. She has also guided many project students and has multi-institutional collaborations.
She has established and serves as the General Secretary of the Genetic Society of Hyderabad. She has presented numerous papers both nationally and internationally, and has more than 40 publications in international journals to her credit. She serves as a Reviewer for numerous journals. She also has a chapter in a genetics book and has published a book titled” Essentials of Cytogenetics and Molecular Cytogenetic Laboratory Testing”.
