Wencke Walter began her scientific career with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Rostock, followed by a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics from Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. Diving deeper into the medical field for her PhD, Wencke joined the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research in Madrid, Spain, as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow. Under the guidance of Drs. Mercedes Ricote and Fátima Sánchez-Cabo, she honed her expertise in transcriptome data analysis, focusing on immunology and cardiovascular research. In 2017, Wencke's passion for leveraging cutting-edge technology and NGS datasets to improve patient care led her to the Munich Leukemia Laboratory. As a key member of the team, she played a pivotal role in establishing both wet and dry laboratory procedures for human whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing. Since the onset of 2025, Wencke has been at the helm of the newly established department of innovation, dedicated to evaluating new methods and technologies for their clinical potential in leukemia diagnostics.
