Speaker Bio
Dr. Nansheng Chen applies genomics technologies to study the evolution of marine biodiversity, with a focus on marine phytoplankton. He has probed phytoplankton biodiversity in coastal regoins of China and the West Pacific through metabarcoding analysis, and has constructed chromosome-level genome assemblies for many dominant phytoplankton species including the harmful algal bloom species Phaeocystis globosa, three Skeletomena species (S. marinoi, S. tropicum, and S. costatum), and three Pseudo-nitzschia species (P. pungens, P. multiseries, and P. delicatissima), revealing interesting insight into the evolution and functional genes of these species. He is interested in exploring the acquisition, evolution, and regulation of functionally important genes in phytoplankton.
